Trying to choose which of the Ballroom Dancing Lessons for Beginners is best suited for you? Well, a good dance is only as good as the music. Dancing is the celebration of the music.
Here’s my suggestion to help you find a dance near Orlando:
1. Click here to down load the “Where to Dance” pdf file. Print the list so you can check the places that sound good to you. 2. Attend each dance to listen to the music. If the music is motivating, write down your thoughts about the dance on your list and continue down the list with the other choices. (If you forget to write down your thoughts, you may lose your place as to which dance had things you liked or disliked.) 3. Write down your list of dances that you liked. If you cannot recognize the dance names, just ask one of the dancers as they exit the dance floor the name of the dance. 4. Call for an appointment to enter your new world of dancing.
Some helpful hints: If you like music with a Latin flavor, think about learning to dance the Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Rhumba, Cha Cha, Samba, and Bolero.
If the music of the 80’s hits your fancy, a better dance choice would be a hustle or sometimes called disco. Yes, that music is still being danced to in dancing venues. A nightclub style dance may be well suited for you.
If you like smooth Jazz music, then think seriously about learning West Coast Swing. If you like the Elvis Presley hits or music from the 50’s and 60’s, then East Coast Swing or sometimes called, “Triple Swing” may be a better dance choice.
If you like the music from the 20’s & 30’s then try the “Jitterbug, “Lindy” or “Jive” may be the style of dancing for you. Download my Where to Dance list. UCF has dancing in this style of dance. The “Lindy” was invented to commemorate Charles Lindbergh’s first airplane flight or “hop” over the Atlantic Ocean in 1927.
You may hear the term, “Ballroom” used. Ballroom is a mixture of many dances. The Foxtrot and Waltz are danced counter-clockwise around the perimeter of the dance floor. This is different than social Foxtrot and social Waltz which could be danced at a ballroom dance, but in the center of the dance floor or safely out of the line of traffic. Other dances played at a Ballroom dance are: cha cha, samba, Rhumba, bolero, west coast swing, Salsa Dancing, east coast swing, hustle, tango and most dance requests.
Lastly, age will be a factor choosing your dance venue. The swing dance at the Whirl and Twirl is a college-age crowd, while the Senior centers are 55 years old and up. Choose where you feel comfortable and the dance music that motivates you to get on the dance floor.
At Two Left Feet you can pick and choose the dances you would like to learn and design a special KISS Dance Lesson just for you. You will learn a few steps in each dance to equip you to get on the floor and DANCE often!!. After you have a foundation of three or four dance steps in each of the dances, then think about adding more steps later to each dance.
